THE ASTON SHUFFLE – SEVENTEEN PAST MIDNIGHT
The Aston Shuffle’s debut album, Seventeen Past Midnight is definitely worthy of a mention for our 2011 end of year playlist. The duo’s unique sound grabs you with its electro dance beats and acoustic striking hooks. The first single from the album, ‘Your Love’, wowed audiences with an enslaving electronic onslaught and the sequel ‘Start Again’ was no disappointment.
FRIENDLY FIRES – PALA
Pala, the follow up album to Friendly Fires 2008’s largely successful self-titled debut is in every way completely infectious! Inspired by the 80s and 90s pop outfits, the album perpetuates the best characteristics of U.K. pop. ‘Hawaiian Air’, a funky melodious track and one of my personal favs, is consistent with many of Friendly Fires previous songs. The albums sophisticated beats will no doubt be played on repeat over the New Year’s long weekend!
ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI – MOMENT BENDS
Moment Bends, the fourth album by Melbourne indie pop band Architecture in Helsinki signifies a new era for the band. Although the originality of the band still remains, the album comes with a more produced, polished sound and distinctive structure. ‘Escapee’, is the perfect example of pop at its most basic, with frontman, Cameron Bird working his way around the swinging synth and group chants.
