New York Fashion Week Inspiration

Although impromptu street style fashion photos and personal style bloggers are my favourite source of outfit inspiration these days, I still get excited when it’s time for designers to showcase their creativity during fashion week.

With NY Fall Fashion Week 2012 having just wrapped up and London kicking off, I thought I’d throw together a quick summery of my favourite trends from NY, some of which appear to be recurring themes of what we’re all wearing now, and a few others which I have no doubt we’ll be wearing later on this year.

So in saying that, these are the trends I think that you can safely invest in now and will take you through this season and the next…

1. Colour Blocking – Be it a combination of soft pastels or vibrant hues, in clothing or your accessories, one thing that NY fashion week proved certain is that colour blocking is definitely here to stay for another season yet.

2.Eclectic pattern and texture combinations – From shiny leather combined with cozy shearling to tweed, plaid, satin and lace in one outfit. It’s all about mixing it ALL together for a quirky and individual look.

3. Digital Prints – We’ve seen it for a few seasons now and moving forward I think it’s going to be more popular than ever. Even Oscar de la Renta’s flowing gowns featured large digital prints!

4. Rich colours in Burgundy – Especially in leather! From trench coats to skirts and dresses, there were a multitude of designers who spread the burgundy around. Investing in this colour is a must!

5.Sophistication – Longer hemlines, pencil skirts, and plenty of tailoring. I’m thinking that Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge may have had an influence on this trend?
