You know we at SurfStitch love a music festival and the SurfStitch Europe crew are no different. Just a quick, cheap flight away from the our base in the south-west France, it would have been rude not to have made the trip for one of Europe’s best festivals – Primavera Sound in Barcelona!
Primavera is held over five days at the impressive Parc del Forum, an urban park designed by famous Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Situated right on the harbour and facing the Mediterranean sea, different stages sometimes appear to float like islands as sailing boats pass by in the distance. A special festival atmosphere.
The days were long and hot and beers plentiful as you kept a constant look out for the ‘San Miguel man’ – an ingenious concept whereby mobile bar staff with kegs strapped to their backs wander around the festival stages ready to render top-ups at any time.
And of course, the lineup this year was out-of-control with something for everyone and every phase of your musical life. Here we walk you through the looks to match the bands…
Cut-offs denim shorts, raw edges, chunky boots, a touch of army and lots of jingle jangle accessories equals rocker perfection for the likes of The Cure, Wilco, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Wild Beasts and The Walkmen.
Colour Me Bad.
Keep it colourful with fluro accessories, coloured denim, mad prints and an irrepressible smile while dancing like a mad (wo)man to M83, SBTRKT, Justice (Live), The Rapture and The Grimes.
Keep it Clean.
Why over-complicate things? Nothing could be purer than double-denim and your trusted Vans to take in the sounds of Beach House, Kings of Convenience, Rufus Wainwright, Washed Out, Beirut, Jeff Mangum, Yo La Tengo and The XX.
Today we’re super excited to introduce to you Globe’s Electric Blue Heaven, a short conceptual film featuring Dion Agius carving up the World’s Best Wave Pool. In the middle of a desert mountain range, Globe presents a beautiful production and some incredible surfing.
A few weeks back, Dion Agius and crew embarked on a journey to the Middle East. A journey for waves. A journey that would bring Dion to unleash on the world’s best man made wave. A studio for surfing.
A story was captured. Captured through the lenses of Joe G, DJ Struntz, Beren Hall, and Grady Archbold. Motion & Still. Film & HD. The story will be told through the pages of our global media partners and through this short film directed by Joe G.”
I’m always intrigued by what the other boys and girls in the office wear. It inspires me to try new things and sometimes if I’m feeling slightly adventurous, reinvent my wardrobe with a few well thought-out pieces!
Saying this, I’ve asked our lovely Content Assistant Dajana to talk fashion, her latest ‘can’t live without winter items’ and other hot styling tips…
Fashion Inspiration: A firm set of basics with an included twist from exciting bursts of colour, accessories or unexpected additions. Clean lines and staple colours are what starts me off but slouch knits, beautiful jackets, quirky accessories and attention grabbing footwear is what completes a look.
Colour Palette: Always, black, white and grey. This season pretty pastel tones and colour in unexpected places are also drawing my eye. Accessories always in gold or tan.
Winter Must-have: A tailored jacket or trench, coloured denim, a great basic slouch tee, a collared shirt and a range of great knits.
At Closer Inspection: Do it like the guys with tailored suit pants, slouchy tee’s, militant inspired jackets and vest, structured shorts and heavy boots but bring in feminine touches with delicate jewellery, beautiful wavy hair topped of with bright skin and lips.
I love… The new Lee Mid Licks Cord Jean in red – they’re a refreshing change from my usual black skinny leg jeans. They tie right in with the coloured denim theme this season but are an easy enough colour to team with a range of colour pallets and styles. I’ve also got my eye firmly set on the Grape colour in the High Licks Jean.
Grab your quiver and celebrate…tomorrow marks the eighth annual International Surfing Day. From paddle-outs to beach clean-ups, surf movie nights to mangrove restorations, surfers across the world will be coming together on June 20th 2012 to both celebrate the sport of surfing, and to give something back to the oceans, waves and beaches that give us all so much.
Check out this sick ISD trailer featuring Makua Rothman, Nathan Fletcher, Dane Reynolds and more…
Stay tuned…tomorrow from 10am to 5pm we’ll be giving away prizes every hour on the SurfStitch Facebook Fan Page (click here).
After seeing Santigold perform her latest album Master Of My Make Believe at Coachella (read about it here) this year I was definitely psyched to get a copy for myself. An electric blur of punk, pop, reggae and dance, Santigold once again retains her crown as the Queen of misfit party anthems.
THE HIVES – LEX HIVES
Lex Hives is the latest and fifth album for the iconic Swedish punk rockers. It sees the band returning to their roots with an original, dirty, garage sound, while at the same time navigating exciting new territories. A must hear!
HOT CHIP – IN OUR HEADS
These guys are being played not stop at the moment on triple J! And it’s not hard to see why! Exploding with dance deconstructions and genuine ruminations on love, protection and life, I can’t get enough of this quirky new album, In Our Heads by Hot Chip.
Shot entirely in one day Here & Now is the latest project by Taylor Steele and Nathan Myers. A great new concept that follows 25 pro surfers, including Kelly Slater, Dave Rastovich, Stephanie Gilmore, around the world in just 24 hours. The quickest turnaround ever, filmmakers were directed to go out to shoot footage and capture the life of a surfer on a nominated day. From the Jungles of Java to the subways of New York City Here & Now has it all…
You’ve probably already heard that a massive E swell pounded the Gold Coast earlier this week with some of the world’s best surfers, including Joel Parkinson, Luke Egan, Bede Durbidge and big-wave rider Ryan Hipwood, paddling out in monsters waves at our local, Kirra. Topping out yesterday, at a heavy eight to ten feet across the exposed coasts some crazy kids must be loving it!

We are one phase past daffodils and the French sun is beaming nicely on the quickly growing European SurfStitch team. Along with the beach, waves, wine and endless supply of dinner parties – summer marks the beginning of Europe’s famous festival season.
The first for us was the ‘San Sebastian Surf Film Festival’. Just a short 40 minute drive south from our European headquarters, a few lucky peeps from SurfStitch were lucky enough to attend the world premiere of ‘Intentio’, an amazing independent surf film directed by our good friend Loïc Wirth.
After the movie we chilled out, and lived the San Sebastian dream – tapas, sangria, the beach and good music. All in the amazing setting of one of Spain’s most beautiful beach city’s.
Check out the Images below and the trailer to Intentio here.
In the last few weeks I’ve started to develop a major crush for all things velvet! A favourite for winter 2012, it’s both comfy and stylish, and adds the precious ingredient of texture to your look that a lot of garments lack. Taking the form of jeans, tops, dresses or jackets, its one trend that I just can’t get enough of! Here’s a fun idea to help get your velvet on this winter!
