Premiering yesterday at the Art Basel 2012, a new short film collaboration with pop artist Richard Phillips, legendary surf filmmaker Taylor Steele… and yes, featuring Lindsay Lohan in a Cynthia Rowleywetsuit.
“First Point presents a postmodern take on the surf film genre through an abstract framework of imagery in which the actress engages in cinema performance tropes inspired by contemporary film noir.”
Although this sounds quite odd, involved in the feature is quite an impressive roll call. Not only the before mentioned Phillips and Steele, but also Kassia Meador as Lohan’s surf double and Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk fame doing the score.
It’ll be interesting to see whether this strange clip is actually any good… Let us know your thoughts?
After two lay days, the Volcom Fiji Pro is back on this morning with the world’s best taking on massive eight-to-ten foot (2.5 – 3 metre) plus surf at the famed, oceanic lefthander of Cloudbreak. The swell that was predicted five days ago has arrived and with it some of the heaviest waves ever seen on the pro tour!
These precious, little egglings are one of my favourite ways to add a little outdoor life to the home or office. Simply crack open the top and discover your own micro-garden ready to grow. Cultivation is easy as – add water and place in a sunny spot! Egglings are available in Lavendar, Petunia Flower, Basil, Mint and even Wild Strawberry!
2. Vintage Record Inspired Coasters.
I thought these retro vinyl record coasters were pretty sweet. The four-pack is made from the original album labels…Yet just another cool spin (pun intended) on recycling!
3. Union Pop Handset
Remember those old school retro phones with the coiled cord? Now you can have your own cell phone handset with the retro inspired Native Union POP handset. These neat phone accessories come in a variety of colours including purple, blue and orange.
Winter is here and with it a delicious way to keep warm. With their fitting shape, leather look leggings are ideal for working a clean, minimalist silhouette. Dark shades are super sleek and super flattering and are perfect paired with a loose tee or contrasting knit.
A basic tee and some skinny jeans on the other hand, is effortlessly cool. In the last couple of years fashion has gone vibrant when it comes to bottoms…in particular skinny jeans. Are you a fan of this brightly coloured trend, or are you more of a leggings girl?
AS+ takes an in-depth look at one of the most influential families in action sports, the Fletcher family from the world of surfing. Herbie Fletcher, his father, Walter, and his sons, Christian and Nathan have helped pioneer new surf techniques and styles for decades. Check out the Fletcher’s incredible story and their love for the art of surfing.
Julian Wilson knows surfboards. He trusts local shapers to create the best boards for wherever he is (like, a Mayhem is best for Lowers.) His board collection is, uh… extensive, to say the least. Jules’ mumma makes his boards pop with colour, too! Find out more in this clip. And watch out for that air-reverse he threw down at Lowers recently, during the Nike event.
Here are some pictures from the Billabong International 2012 Campaign, documented on a roadtrip around Europe by photographer Nirrimi Firebrace. Read more about the adventure here. Styled by Mandy from Oraclefox and models, Jocelyn, Lindsay and Catherine. Film by Mexico Rosel. Enjoy! xx
