Back In Black.

SurfStitch brand Lee contracted LA skater, filmaker and photographer Mike Piscitelli to shoot their AW 13 wear. And so, with the help of models Cole Mohr and Cora Keegan the following tale of late night rock and roll and anarchy was created all covered in tattoo’s, glitter, torn fabric and of course, the colour black.

Take a look behind the scenes with the video below and don’t forget to check out the new Lee range available on SurfStitch!

Obsession: Shirts Around Waist

You only need to take a look at the endless street style blog coverage of fashion week to know what trends and obsessions are circulating through the fashion world. One trend that we see continuously popping up in our feed are shirts tied around the waist otherwise known as the waist-wrap. Love it or hate it this trend is coming back in a big way. Hailing from the 90s grunge days, shirts tied around your waist have otherwise been non existent for years, kept in the past and remembered on the punks in mosh pits rocking the look with their band tees and doc martens. Tying your shirt around your waist is perfect for those transeasonal months when the weather is as unpredictable as your hair first thing in the morning!

A casual daytime staple, this is a great layering technique to break up an outfit or add a splash of colour. Whether you prefer the grungy plaid, leather or denim, this is one trend that is completely up to your personal choice and can be styled in numerous ways. Wear a plaid pattern over denim shorts, singlet and boots for a casual daytime look or dress it up with leather pieces, skinny jeans and heels like Taylor Tomasi Hill. From the runways of 3.1 Phillip Lim to celebrities like Rhianna and Kanye West, bloggers and stylists alike this look has quickly become a style favourite. Here at SurfStitch HQ we are completely obsessed, bring on the 90s we say!

Kate Bock For Elle Italia.

Katelynne Bock is the latest beautiful creature to participate in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. The recent shoot she did for Elle Italia is one of the greatest examples of eye popping, pattern clashing, fashion flare I have seen in a while and Katelynne’s natural beauty radiates as she pulls off fashion forward tomboy in the most charming way.

Items Of The Week: Denim With Attitude.

Denim, for me, can be worn one of three ways. You can wear your denim sleek and sexy sophisticated all skin tight jeans with a high rise or tailored denim jackets. You can wear your denim cute and flirty in the form of overalls or light denim shirts with a light weight skirt. Or you can wear your denim with attitude! Ripped denim shorts, loose fit boyfriend jeans with wear and tear all through them or a little something like our items of the week this week…..

Ladies can we get a round of applause for…

Gentlemen can we get around of applause for…

And for the guys, this is how you do denim with attitude. It doesn’t have to be all ripped hems and slashed detailing, this RVCA Kill Taker Denim Vest $119.99, adds attitude with a vintage wash finish and a little help from dangerous patch working. Chuck it over a white tee and double the denim with a pair of jeans for instant swagger.

Mens Trend: The Denim Vest

Indy street style has influenced the wardrobes of trend-followers everywhere, and the denim vest is certainly one of the bigger mens hits this season. Worn over a loose singlet or even a t-shirt, the denim vest is a great addition to your outfit. The vest is versatile – worn with black jeans and boots, it gives your look some edge, or with a tee and chinos, it can be worn day to day. If you’re feeling extra bold, add some Icon accessories and a hat for the ultimate indy rock look.

We’re even seeing more of the (traditionally fashionably criminal) denim-on-denim combinations, but so long as your denim combo is in different shades, we’re…kind of…ok with that!

Remind you of motorcycles and James Dean? Us too…Sigh!

OBSESSION: The Denim Short

A model off-duty favourite, a summer festival staple and an item that transcends any season, the denim short is one trend that never goes out of style.  Nothing screams summer more than your denim cut offs, and this year sees them transform. From floral, to sorbet pastels and popping brights or patterns, the denim short is vamped up to suit every mood. Ever since Daisy Duke raised our awareness in her form fitting short shorts, the denim short has become an eternal staple item that everyone should have at the forefront of their wardrobe.

Year after year celebs are spotted rocking the trend at Coachella, on the streets and even during the fashion week season. It’s a look that can be transformed for whatever occasion. Take cue from our inspiration and dress them up with a classic white shirt, blazer and heels for a night out, pair with a tee, converse and an arm full of bracelets for a casual take or for the daring rock denim on denim. Looking for a DIY job this summer holiday? Convert a pair of your SurfStitch winter jeans into shorts by cutting off the legs, fraying the edges wth sandpaper then throwing them in the washing machine and voila! Your customised pair of denim shorts to take you from the beach to the bar in style.

Here at SurfStitch we were born as blue jean babies and have turned into self confessed denim junkies.  This summer don’t just opt for your washed out blues, take a cue from SurfStitch and experiment with the hottest colours and patterns. I think it’s safe to say, we’re obsessed!
