Mondays are hard, and they’re even harder in the winter – I think we can all agree on that one! This got me thinking about what improves my Mondays, and I realised…it’s all about trying to feel inspired!
So I thought I’d show you some of the things that inspire me to get out of my Monday morning gloom. Take a look – I hope they can inspire you too. There’s some SurfStitch product that I’m loving at the moment too!
Some beautiful flowers to brighten a room.
Beautiful people who changed an entire era.
Pretty words describing prettier places.
A big city and all of its’ lights.
Thinking of my favourite place: Dubrovnik.
A tropical sunset.
Here are some things I bought today (that are definitely improving my Monday!)
1. Stylestalker Replicants Pant – Chambray Floral. Dressed up with cuban heeled boots and a tucked in button down shirt, or dressed down with a singlet & strappy sandals! 2. Tigerlily Amisha Onesie – Dark Indigo. Dressed up with heels, purse and jewelled necklace, or down with sandals (perfect for my European travels coming up!). 3. Rhythm The Packet Hat – Black. Super on-trend right now, the fedora is a winter style staple!
And these ones are still on the wishlist.
1. Tigerlily Kutch Dress – Basmati. Again, thinking of Europe! A comfortable dress to throw over a bikini and to wear to a seaside lunch! 2. Living Doll Toasted Marshmello Knit. Chunky knits are back again this winter and this one is super cute with those little plucked fibres and dotted colouring. 3. Tigerlily Parvani Pant – Moon. Track pants are often daggy, but not when they’re Tigerlily and Fluoro!
There’s no escaping, denying, or hiding it: the crazy contrast pocket is a trend on mens tees that’s come around and is here to stay! Whether it’s a different colour from the same palette, or whether it’s a crazy print clashing on another, this style can be seen all over SurfStitch and its’ mens new arrivals.

The 66th edition of the glamorous Cannes Film Festival kicked off in the French Riviera yesterday. Baz Luhrmann’s lavish take on the classic The Great Gatsby opened the festival with stars including Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman and Isla Fisher gracing the red carpet despite the windy and drenching weather. The horrible weather didn’t manage to ruin the high spirits although the hemlines had to be watched and hair and make up excused!
The film world royalty all port at the picturesque French Riviera for the 12 day festival which is filled with beautiful people and amazing cinematography. We here at SurfStitch are lusting over the high attention to detail and breathtaking work of some of the world’s best couture gowns on show on the red carpet. Great Gatsby star, Carey Mulligan, stole the show in her baby pink couture Dior dress while model of the moment Cara Delvingne sported a Burberry black lace floor length gown.
Take inspiration from the movie elite and their black tie events on a smaller, much more understated level with lace sleeves, bright bursts of colour and attention to detail pieces. While we can’t all be so lucky to wear the works of Dior we can always dream through these images and the SurfStitch pieces below.
Go pretty and girly with shades of pink from blush to bright, volumous skirts or take cue from Nicole Kidman with floral motifs and high detailing.

With staple wardrobe essentials including t-shirts, denim shorts, leather pants and statement accessories she has an easy yet refined style. In an interview with Elle.com she describes her look as:
“My style has always been the same idea. Very free, easy, relaxed, and slightly androgynous… I’ve never been a girly-girl, never drawn to things that are fussy. And the older I get, the more basic I get. I look at pictures of the stuff I wore five years ago and am like, “Wow, I was really going there.” I’ve become so simple these days. I like the idea of not looking at trends, not being driven by them. I like what I like and that’s it.”

In the past few years SurfStitch has launched our European site, been named Online Retailer of the Year and won Best Pure Play Online Retailer and Best Site Optimization and design at the ORIA’s. When we reached another mile stone, welcoming our 400th brand, we decided it was well and truly time to celebrate….And celebrate we did!
At a roof top location in Coolangatta on Saturday night, attendee’s walked into what fittingly felt like a scene out of a Corona commercial. Decorated and put together by the wonderful people at Us And You Events, the theme of the night centered around SurfStitch’s development and growth. Party goers had their pictures taken on Polaroid camera’s that were later added to a large banner, eventually carving out the number ’400,’ growing over time just as the company itself has.
A large paper flower garden was the center piece encouraging photo op’s amoungst the blooms to “See how our garden grows.”
And what would a party to celebrate 400 brands be without involving a couple of the killer labels offered on site? The Zanerobe party crew jumped in their van and headed up from Sydney to work the decks all night, getting a quick rest as our head Men’s buyer Ollie Edwards took over and spun some old school hip hop.
The filling of the ’400′ banner and the phenomenal sunset was all caught on time laps film from a couple of camera’s donated by GoPro, as well as some other rather interesting footage from the rest of the night.
Sailor Jerry’s ensured that all that hard work on the dance floor was rewarded with a refreshing beverage mixed with Jerry’s, ginger beer, bitters and lime and the night went off without a hitch.
400 Brands was an absolute blast and we can’t wait for the 500th!
The drop crotch jean and pant is a new and daring trend not for the faint hearted. However, when done right it is a fresh style that gives a street edge to ordinary jeans. For some this look may be a bit too much, but if you style it with a basic tee and sneakers you will have a statement, edgy look. Don’t ever get this look confused with the MC hammer pant, this is definitely not a baggy, loose style circa 1980s. To stop you getting confused between the two don’t go for a loose drop crotch to your knees instead choose a more subtle cut with a tapered leg.
