Obsession: Festive Season Of A Different Kind.

With the festive season out of the way we can now move on to our latest obsession, the festi-VAL season!

With so many great gigs coming up and such an array of different acts and sounds, we thought we’d give you a hand deciding a fundamental element to making sure you have the best day possible….your outfit! The vibe, the crowd, the sound and the weather are all key things to keep in mind when deciding what you are going to wear to a festival so we thought we’d give you a quick break down of each and put together the perfect ensemble for both guys and girls. Obsessed? Us? Just a little bit….

BIG DAY OUT:

First up on the line up we have Big Day Out. Hitting Sydney on Friday the 18th of Jan, Gold Coast on Sunday the 20th, Adelaide on Friday the 25th, Melbourne on Saturday the 26th and Perth on Monday the 28th. The line up includes the like of…

The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Alabama Skakes, Bloody Beetroots, Sleigh Bells, Band Of Horse…

And much, much more. The mood is hyped, the weather is hot as hell and it’s a long day full of colourful acts and side shows so here’s what to wear if you want to be prepared.

ST JEROME’S LANEWAY FESTIVAL:

Next up is Laneway Festival! Starting in Brisbane on Friday the 1st of Feb then moving on to Sydney on Saturday the second, Melbourne on Sunday the 3rd, Adelaide on Friday the 8th and finishing up in Perth on Saturday the 9th. A few of the featured acts are….

Alpine, Bat For Lashes, Alt-J, Flume, Monsters And Men, The Rubens, Yeasayer.

This is a festival for those who truly love their music so you better know your stuff. Accompanied by some cute vintage and second hand markets as well as some scorching weather it’s best to go light and breezy for your outfit of choice.

Shirt, Shorts, Shoes, Sunglasses, Bracelets.

SOUNDWAVE FESTIVAL:

The home of heavy metal, punk and hardcore Soundwave festival hits Brisbane on Saturday the 23rd of Feb, Sydney on Sunday the 24th of Feb, Melbourne on Friday March the 1st, Adelaide on Saturday March the 2nd and Perth on Monday March the 4th. The lineup includes…

METALLICA, LINKIN PARK, BLINK 182, A PERFECT CIRCLE, THE OFFSPRING,  PARAMORE , SLAYER , GARBAGE , CYPRESS HILL , BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.

A festival not for the light-hearted, Soundwave is a head banging, elbow throwing, epic display of all things hardcore. A day involving a bunch of screaming and a little something called the ‘Wall Of Death’ (look it up.) You’re going to want to wear closed in shoes for this one!

Guys:

Shorts, Tank, Shoes, Sunglasses, Cuff.

FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL:

Future Music hits us next. Shows begin in Brisbane on Saturday the 2nd of March then continue on to Perth on Sunday the 3rd, Sydney on Saturday the 9th, Melbourne on Sunday the 10th and ending in Adelaide on Monday the 11th. Here you’ll see acts such as…

The Prodigy, Psy, Dizzee Rascal, Azealia Banks, Block Party, Boys Noize, Rita Ora, Steve Aoki.

This festival is a mash of pop, electro, dance with a little bit of pop rock on the side. Bring out your bright colour, put on your dance shoes and get unpredictable!

BYRON BAY BLUES AND ROOTS:

And finally, for a change of pace, we have Blues And Roots. The festival plays in Byron Bay from Thursday the 28th of March till Monday the 1st of April. The lineup includes…

The festival is a folke festival that is all about earthy vibes, jazz, funk and the blues. It’s a camping festival so you’re going to have to be a little more prepared but to give you an idea…

Road Trippin’ with MinkPink.

Only one more sleep till I hit the road for Byron Bay and gear up for Splendour In The Grass!

To ensure I’m in the right head space for three days of festival madness, I’ve got my driving playlist prepped with all of my favourite tunes from Jack White, Lanie Lane, San Cisco, Friends, Bloc Party, Jinja Safari, Metric, Lana Del Rey, The Kooks and of course, The Smashing Pumpkins.

With Splendour in the Grass fast approaching and the Summer festivals only a season away, it’s time to start thinking about the most important thing (aside from the music)…the fashion!

Music Roundup. Primavera Sound, Barcelona.

You know we at SurfStitch love a music festival and the SurfStitch Europe crew are no different. Just a quick, cheap flight away from the our base in the south-west France, it would have been rude not to have made the trip for one of Europe’s best festivals – Primavera Sound in Barcelona!

Primavera is held over five days at the impressive Parc del Forum, an urban park designed by famous Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Situated right on the harbour and facing the Mediterranean sea, different stages sometimes appear to float like islands as sailing boats pass by in the distance. A special festival atmosphere.

The days were long and hot and beers plentiful as you kept a constant look out for the ‘San Miguel man’ – an ingenious concept whereby mobile bar staff with kegs strapped to their backs wander around the festival stages ready to render top-ups at any time.

And of course, the lineup this year was out-of-control with something for everyone and every phase of your musical life. Here we walk you through the looks to match the bands…

Grunge Revisted.

Cut-offs denim shorts, raw edges, chunky boots, a touch of army and lots of jingle jangle accessories equals rocker perfection for the likes of The Cure, Wilco, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Wild Beasts and The Walkmen.

Colour Me Bad.

Keep it colourful with fluro accessories, coloured denim, mad prints and an irrepressible smile while dancing like a mad (wo)man to M83, SBTRKT, Justice (Live), The Rapture and The Grimes.

Keep it Clean.

So it’s time we take it to the next level and get up close and personal with some of the top accessories Coachella has to offer.
