Womens Trend: Boho Babe

We’ve been there before but the beauty of this trend will never die. Bohemian chic is a trend still being seen in the collections of many brands such as Tigerlily, 2 Chillies, Billabong and others, and while it seems like a summer style, don’t be fooled. Kaftans and printed jumpers can take your bohemian chic to the cooler weather, and can look amazing over the top of a maxi dress. What’s the real key to looking like a boho goddess? Untamed beach waves in your hair, mismatched accessories (and lots of them – stacked bracelets, cuffs and rings) and free flowing, loose and comfortable pieces that have clashing prints and eye-catching colours. Aside from that, all you need is a free, calm and peaceful attitude!

Take a look at the Bohemian inspiration we’ve found online and shop the trend with pants, jumpers, dresses, bikinis and accessories on SurfStitch.

Cannes Film Festival 2013

The 66th edition of the glamorous Cannes Film Festival kicked off in the French Riviera yesterday. Baz Luhrmann’s lavish take on the classic The Great Gatsby opened the festival with stars including Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman and Isla Fisher gracing the red carpet despite the windy and drenching weather. The horrible weather didn’t manage to ruin the high spirits although the hemlines had to be watched and hair and make up excused!

The film world royalty all port at the picturesque French Riviera for the 12 day festival which is filled with beautiful people and amazing cinematography. We here at SurfStitch are lusting over the high attention to detail and breathtaking work of some of the world’s best couture gowns on show on the red carpet. Great Gatsby star, Carey Mulligan, stole the show in her baby pink couture Dior dress while model of the moment Cara Delvingne sported a Burberry black lace floor length gown.

Take inspiration from the movie elite and their black tie events on a smaller, much more understated level with lace sleeves, bright bursts of colour and attention to detail pieces. While we can’t all be so lucky to wear the works of Dior we can always dream through these images and the SurfStitch pieces below.

Go pretty and girly with shades of pink from blush to bright, volumous skirts or take cue from Nicole Kidman with floral motifs and high detailing.

Women’s Trend: Winter Florals

Don’t be mistaken that the ending of summer means the ending of floral and botanical prints, as one of the biggest trends circulating this winter are dark, winter florals. Scattered over the international runways of Marc Jacobs, Burberry and Christopher Kane, we knew this trend was hot when it was seen by some of our favourite fashionistas during those cold months in the northern hemisphere. The difference in winter florals compared to our summer favourites is that they’re not the tropical and bright blooms that we’ve grown accustomed too, but the dark fields and wild flowers that will be the seducing print of the season.

Wear your florals on a basic black canvas to make the look more edgy with your leather jackets and boots for winter. The simplest way to inject floral into your winter look is by adding a bright scarf, floral pants with a cosy knit or a botanical jumper. However, for the daring try head to toe in a moody tone or take key from Jess Hart and tone down the head to toe look with a layered black knit. The best thing about this coming trend is that you don’t need to put your summer florals to the back of the wardrobe just yet, update them by pairing with dark colours and winter has a whole new take on sexiness. Here at SurfStitch we are simply loving this trend and can’t get enough of anything that keeps those hints of summer alive!

Kate Bock For Elle Italia.

Katelynne Bock is the latest beautiful creature to participate in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. The recent shoot she did for Elle Italia is one of the greatest examples of eye popping, pattern clashing, fashion flare I have seen in a while and Katelynne’s natural beauty radiates as she pulls off fashion forward tomboy in the most charming way.

Brand Feature: Rhythm.

The Rhythm label is one that’s pretty close to our hearts here at SurfStitch, mainly because they literally live right around the corner from us in Burleigh on the Gold Coast. They also have a hot young design team who also happen to be brother and sister, they are avid supporters of local music and artistic talent and they consistently bring out pieces that are perfect for coastal kids who like to look good but don’t take themselves too seriously.

Their Summer range was all about on trend patterning, basic block colours and relaxed, flattering fits and the price range… ridiculously affordable. The best part is, I’ve seen what they have install for us for Winter 2013 and it’s even better!

Not that they need to much help on the promo side, Rhythm have a large base of talented friends in the photography, modelling, editorial, styling and surfing world who don’t mind giving the brand a push…But what the hell, here’s one more! Check out the brands website here and shop their range right here on SurfStitch.

Interview: Jasmin Howell From Friend In Fashion.

Style is something that can’t be bought. Yes money can buy nicer clothes, prestigious brands and plenty of shoes but only someone with style can take a piece, no matter what the price tag, and make it fit just right with the perfect additives. Style is what came into mind when we selected Jasmin Howell from Friend In Fashion to guest blog for us here at This&That. Her outfit post’s combine a mixture of high street labels, designer brands and your everyday bargain buys and she makes them look incredible every time.

We sat down with Jasmin and attempted to bottle up a little of that stylish knowledge for ourselves asking her all about shopping the site, her Summer favorites and what blogging means to her.

Wearing the Insight Dipper Shorts

Dajana: Thanks so much for getting involved and creating some wonderful content for our blog! When did you first discover our site?

Jasmin: I’ve been shopping SurfStitch for a couple of years now. I think I first came across the store, when I was about to head overseas and was looking for swimwear and sundresses to fill my summer luggage.

D: What are you generally browsing our new arrivals for?

J: I’m loving the introduction of Australian designers like Camilla and Marc, Zimmermann and Tigerlily to SurfStitch and make habit of always check back which new arrivals hit the site.

D: Now you’re a Melbourne girl so Summer probably doesn’t heat up quite as much for you as it does for us here on the Gold Coast but once the weather does get warmer are you a floating dress or a shorts and singlet kind of girl?

J: Both! I love summer and am definitely in my element when it comes to summer fashion. There is nothing I love more than a floaty sundress on a warm summer’s day, but I equally love a great pair of denim cut-offs. My latest favourites have to be the ‘Insight Dipper Short’.

Wearing the Roxy Suntoucher Shorts and a Wildfox knit.

D: What’s your must have accessory for Summer?

J:  An amazing pair of sunglasses are a must for summer!  My SurfStitch top picks are:

D: Now let’s talk blogging. If you could describe your blog in three words what would they be?

J: Fun, feminine, creative. Friend in Fashion not only follows my style, but also my travels, so there is also an element of adventure to the blog.

D: How did you get into blogging and what do you aim for with each new chapter of Friend In Fashion?

J: To be honest, when I first started blogging, I knew very little about the whole blogging world. I wanted to start a style diary and it really evolved from there. I became a part of the blogger community and now I’m fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with amazing brands and stores like SurftStitch. As for what’s next? I like to take each opportunity as it comes, but you can definitely expect more travel and International style inspiration from/on Friend in Fashion.
