Women’s Trend || Jackets and Knits

Winter is a time for being comfortable, relaxed and cosy around a fire. This season, comfy can be fashionable as knits and jackets are becoming more and more modern and stylish, to either wear at home or out.

Trending are the natural colours, the navy’s and the stripes. Knits are an easy throw over or can be worn as a long sleeved top. The ladies are getting a much more diverse range of knits and jackets to accompany their street style. Pairing your favourite knit with a pair of boyfriend jeans will give you a good look that will last all winter long.

Cardigan Weather!

There is absolutely no shame in admitting it: it is officially cardigan weather! Cooler than the knitted jumper and more suited to the indoors than the parka jacket, the cardigan is the perfect piece to throw over your outfit on a cooler day (whether or not it was your Nan’s favourite!).

Our two favourite trends right now that we’re seeing a lot of on SurfStitch are cardigans in neutral tones of wool, and ones with a tribal print.

Pair yours with your trackies and singlet at home, or with your tee, jeans and boots when you’re out – the cardi is the perfect addition to your Autumn and Winter wardrobe!

Check out some of our inspiration and shop our favourites.

The influx snowy pictures of London and New York fashion weeks popping up on my Instagram feed have got me inspired for Winter.

The American and English fashion shows are a great gauge of upcoming trends. A recurring theme we have been noticing is knitted jumpers which we are predicting will be hot (and keep you hot) this Autumn and Winter.

A wardrobe classic, the knit is super diverse – chunky knits, cable knits, oversize knits and knitted dresses, cardigans and jumpers.

Winter Wardrobe Essentials.

Winter is fast approaching with only days to go which means we are about to slam head first into cold days and even colder nights. It’s time to re-work the wardrobe and get those essential pieces to get you happily and safely through the winter chill in style. Firstly, ensure you have an up to date wardrobe by combining staples with on trend accessories like beanies and scarves. I can guarantee if you follow the buying guide below you will never have an “I have nothing to wear” moment again (well maybe until next season)!

The beanie is not only a statement head wear option this winter but oh so practical! You can look chic, inject some colour into your winter wardrobe and keep your head warm all at once- if you can think of a more versatile piece, please let me know! Guys and gals are jumping on the beanie bandwagon to add some street cred to their outfit. I say, bring on the bad hair days because then you can cover them up!

The jean is a pretty self explanatory wardrobe essential. They are the most staple and versatile piece of any guy or gals wardrobe. The jean becomes the solid building block for your winter attire whether it’s with a casual jumper and cons for day or heels/ dress shoes and a jacket for night. The only thing about the jean is the style can change each season and this season for the ladies is the boyfriend jean (boyfriend jean blog post) and traditional blue that takes centre stage while the guy’s see the drop crotch, dark denim and tracksuit denim style take over. If you don’t have a solid pair and only have one pay check to splash out on, get yourself some jeans!

Do you prefer the bomber, varsity, denim, leather, anorak or blazer? It really doesn’t matter because this winter they are all on trend in a variety of cuts and colours. Throw on the bomber for day then change to the anorak for afternoon drinks and a blazer for dinner. So little time, so many options!

Winter is the season of the boot scootin’ baby! There’s so many women’s boots this season from the ankle, heeled, biker, flat and knee length boots we’re spoiled for choice. All boots can easily be worn with pants, skirts and dresses but my pick of the season is the ankle boot as it’s more versatile and can be worn well into the spring months.

A knit jumper is sure to keep you snug all winter long. You can wear it by itself with leather pants or jeans or layer it under your jacket for those chillier days. Go for a bright colour, patterned or black… the choices are endless.

Scarves are the winter hero. They can dress up a plain knit and tee combo and add a little something to an otherwise basic outfit. A chunky woollen scarf can double as a shawl or choose a lighter scarf for those warmer days and to add an unexpected element to your outfit.

1 Item, 3 Ways: Boyfriend Jean

The boyfriend jean is this winter’s go-to style jean. Forget the patterned, coloured and cropped styles of the past and look to this versatile and comfy jean. Some may look at this style with a bit of hesitation, after all when you think of baggy, ripped jeans not too many flattering images come to mind, however this style can be easily dressed up or worn casual and distressed for many occasions. Boyfriend jeans have been all over the street style blogs and were paraded outside the fashion week cycle copious times so we have no hesitation that this style is hot! I love these Lee Dylan Jean with just the right amount of rips, a cuffed hem and loose feel they have become as versatile as the LBD. See how you can wear one pair of jeans in many different ways from dressed up in leather accents and heels, dressed down with a neon knit or worn in a classic way with a stripped tee and jacket thrown on for the cooler months.

Dress it up with leather.

Lovely Loungewear.

Autumn is time to embrace all the loveliness in the humble home. Warm bowls of steamy soup with your favourite book in your lap, snuggled up on the lounge in woollen socks and sleeping in well past your alarm. Autumn is the best season to embrace those cosy loungewear items that are sometimes often overlooked in your wardrobe “must haves,” however during the cooler months they become more essential than the latest party dress.

Loungewear is all about soft luxurious fabrics that are cosy enough to sleep in layered under chunky woollens for those chilly nights. Find matching sets or mix and match textures, colours and prints for a bit more fun. Luxe white, grey and ivory make for a soft luxurious feel, while coloured ugg boots and fun socks turn lazing around the home a bit more playful. Embrace loungewear items from SurfStitch because as the temperature drops they are sure to become your closest friend.

Style to Chace.

There’s no shame in having a man crush – masquerade it as a style icon and you’re good to go. If you’re going to choose anyone, Chace Crawford is a good choice. Half preppy chic, half New York suave, Chace Crawford and his character on TV Series Gossip Girl have for the wardrobe thing right.

From collared shirts rolled to (but not past) the elbow, to woolen knits and chinos, Nate/Chace or whatever you want to call him, seems to know how to keep classy even in a casual setting. Chase his style by donning a long-sleeved shirt with your skinny jeans, a woolen knit with your chinos, and a perfectily tailored suit jacket for those more formal occasions.

Take a look at some of his best, and at how you can steal his style from SurfStitch.
