Splendour in the Grass 2014

That’s right ladies and gentleman, Australia’s favourite music festival is back again for 2014. The ‘Splendour In The Grass’ line up was released last Wednesday, with excitement and anticipation levels boosting through the roof of music lovers homes all over the country. From local acts, to some a little better known, Splendour in the Grass always offers entertainment from every aspect possible. Byron Bay Parklands in Northern New South Wales will once again play host to this amazing event, drawing in worldwide audiences and creating memories to last a lifetime.

If you’ve been before, you’ll know Splendour is filled with nothing but good vibes, great music and a whole lot of fun for you and your friends. Located 10 minutes from the Town Centre, this year’s festival offers many unique areas, all providing different experiences and performances. From the classic Tipi Forest, to the beautiful natural amphitheatre stage and everything else in between, Splendour ensures fun for every type of person, regardless of age or music preference.

There were rumours spreading on who would be performing at this years 3 day festival, and the results did not disappoint. With the festival offering many popular artists demonstrating all types of music, it is the likes of Outkast, Lily Allen, Two Door Cinema Club, Interpol and Foster the People who will be headlining this year’s event. ‘Heyyyyyyy yaaaaa’ Yep, you heard right. Other popular acts also include Angus and Julia Stone, City and Colour, the very amazing Rufus, and of course, Art vs. Science.

2014 is also the first year since 2006 headliners Outkast have performed together on stage. Coachella in the United States earlier this year was the first time fans had seen the duo back at it, a performance which now has Australian fans more excited than ever.

The dates for the 2014 Splendour In The Grass are the 25th, 26 and 27th of July. Tickets for the entire 3 days start from just $355 Australian Dollars, while single day tickets are also available for $149. Splendour is also offering camping tickets for $99 and as previous event goers know, the camp site is often a large majority of the fun and is definitely recommended.  All in all, a total of 84 artists will be performing at Splendour In The Grass 2014, 46 of them being Australian, so get on down and support!

splendourposter2014Not a music lover and getting dragged along? Not to worry. There really and truly is something for everyone, including the Global Village and Very Small Mall. These areas consist of stalls, workshops, yoga and some great food. Very Small Mall allows you to pick up anything you might need for festival essentials, from t-shirts, gumboots and rain coats, just in case the weather goes a little sour, as it has in previous years. The festival even offers a kids club known as ‘Little Splendour’, so mum and dad can sneak off to see some of their favourite acts.

Many of the headliners haven’t played a show in Australia for over a year, so no doubt all will be great performances. Splendour is a unique festival and of course one which all previous artists have enjoyed being a part of. It’s whole environment is something many look forward to year after year and 2014 will be no different.

So get those annual leave forms signed and your tents, fresh undies and sleeping bags ready, because it’s only around the corner and this year is surely one you do not want to miss. Tickets go on sale 9am sharp AEST, Friday the 2nd of May at http://www.moshtix.com.au or by phoning 1300 GET TIX.

As the sun shines ever brighter and festival season comes ever closer, our wardrobes at SurfStitch are calling out for brighter, lighter and louder pieces. We’ve gone on about colour pops and loud patterns – and the trend isn’t budging as more brands bring out crazy brights for both ladies and gents new arrivals.

Ladies, can we get a round of applause for…

The MINKPINK Pipe Down Skirt – Yellow Pink - $59.99.

Appropriately named, this little number yells and screams loud enough to be a statement piece in your summer wardrobe. Paired with a white singlet or tee, it’s a gorgeous daytime outfit, and paired with a cropped top and a pair of wedge heels, it’s the perfect piece for summer evening cocktails.

Gentlemen, can we get a round of applause for…

The Von Zipper Couch Surfer Singlet – Magenta – $45.99.

Singlets are slowly becoming a guys best friend on sticky hot summer days, and what better way to rock one than to go with colours that pop! Step out of your comfort zone a little, and don a statement singlet that’ll get heads turning.

Festival Fever at SurfStitch.

With Splendour in the Grass fast approaching and the Summer festivals only a season away, it’s time to start thinking about the most important thing (aside from the music)…the fashion!

This year’s festival season in America brought the ultimate inspiration with the best of the celebrity crowd showcasing their take on festive dressing.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely. Image.

Kate Bosworth. Image.

Go simple and chic like Rosie and Kate with a shirt and short combo or printed dress.

Dita Von Teese. Image.

Whitney Port. Image.

Dita and Whitney keep it fun and fresh with quirky colour combo’s and simple whites always accessorised with a great pair of shades. You can’t go wrong if you mimic these looks.

Austin Butler and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens. Image.

For all you guys out there, festival fashion isn’t just restricted to the ladies. Get involved and remember that accessories like hats, sunglasses and jewellery are key for festival dressing.

Music Roundup. Primavera Sound, Barcelona.

You know we at SurfStitch love a music festival and the SurfStitch Europe crew are no different. Just a quick, cheap flight away from the our base in the south-west France, it would have been rude not to have made the trip for one of Europe’s best festivals – Primavera Sound in Barcelona!

Primavera is held over five days at the impressive Parc del Forum, an urban park designed by famous Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Situated right on the harbour and facing the Mediterranean sea, different stages sometimes appear to float like islands as sailing boats pass by in the distance. A special festival atmosphere.

The days were long and hot and beers plentiful as you kept a constant look out for the ‘San Miguel man’ – an ingenious concept whereby mobile bar staff with kegs strapped to their backs wander around the festival stages ready to render top-ups at any time.

And of course, the lineup this year was out-of-control with something for everyone and every phase of your musical life. Here we walk you through the looks to match the bands…

Grunge Revisted.

Cut-offs denim shorts, raw edges, chunky boots, a touch of army and lots of jingle jangle accessories equals rocker perfection for the likes of The Cure, Wilco, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Wild Beasts and The Walkmen.

Colour Me Bad.

Keep it colourful with fluro accessories, coloured denim, mad prints and an irrepressible smile while dancing like a mad (wo)man to M83, SBTRKT, Justice (Live), The Rapture and The Grimes.

Keep it Clean.

Why over-complicate things? Nothing could be purer than double-denim and your trusted Vans to take in the sounds of Beach House, Kings of Convenience, Rufus Wainwright, Washed Out, Beirut, Jeff Mangum, Yo La Tengo and The XX.

Tunesday. Youth Lagoon.

It feels like I’ve been waiting forever to see this guy perform live…although it really hasn’t been that long. Trevor Powers is an unassuming character, a 22 year old American musician with a boyish-like face accompanied by a mass of dark curly hair and a mesmerizingly innocent voice. The debut album “Year Of Hibernation” was released late last year with its delicate tracks and an undeniable vibe of hushed intimacy.

Performing with only a keyboard and a guitarist on stage, Powers is surrounded by an untouchable aura as his usually hushed vocals are put on show. With so little standing between him and the audience, Youth Lagoon’s performances are intimate and personal. I’m so stoked to be seeing Youth Lagoon perform live at Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass. Who are you most looking forward to at this year’s Splendour?

Music Roundup. Splendour Edition.

SPLENOUR in the grass tickets went on sale last week and sold out in a record time of just 43 minutes. The three-day music festival has finally returned to Byron Bay’s Belongil Fields this year with one hell of an impressive line-up. Bloc Party, The Kooks, Lana Del Rey, Hilltop Hoods, Kimbra and local Angus Stone to name just a few.

After three years, Bloc Party will be returning to Australia for Splendour 2012. Debuting material from their forthcoming new album (as well as our favourite old stuff) I can’t wait to see these guys perform live!

Ever since Kimbra’s duet with Gotye in the worldwide smash hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ I’ve been waiting to see this quirky, soulful songstress perform live… Can’t wait!

Welcome Lana Del Rey. Introduced to many of her fans through her DIY video for, “Video Games”, her contemporary, darkly enchanting album ‘Born to Die’ is currently on high rotation around the world.

Splendour 2012 here we come!

Coachella Recap. Best & Worst Moments.

Three days traipsing through the Californian desert at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, we were exhausted and sunburned, but mostly astounded with all the incredible music. It would be easy to say that Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and hologram Tupac were the highlight for the whole weekend but with so many other amazing artists performing live it would be selling them short. Check out the highlights and low-points of our trip here!

Although Azealia Banks only performed for 20 minutes, that 20 minutes was raw and hypnotic. We all wanted more, but am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Azealia over the next few years.

Janet Jackson…need I say more?

The Weeknd hands down. His sexy, soul voice had girls throwing their panties in the air.

Alicia Silverstone was spotted sporting a plaid button-up shirt, destroyed boyfriend jeans and bubba Bear Blu. So cute!

40-degree heat. Dehydrated. Endless drink lines. And the most perfect, juiciest, watermelon wedge ever.

When Florence from Florence And The Machine declared her love for her fans and then asked the audience to proclaim their love for each other. Every person in the crowd turned to who they were with and gave them a hug. Such a special moment.

Most notable surprise appearance of the weekend was John Fogerty during the Black Keys’ set!
