There are two major events marked on the Australian fashion calendar and watched by many. From the envious street style shots that flood the blogs to the shows that are often limited to the exclusive insiders and anticipated every season. This week showcases one of those major events, the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. The week has displayed some of the hottest labels AW’13 collections, which saw a focus on intricate detailing, exquisite prints, and the perfect balance being formed between tough rock and feminine delicates. Shakuhachi presented another collection in a world of their own. Heavily embellished with gold detailing in cropped tees and shorts this is a collection founded on sophistication and modern detailing. With a fairly monotone colour palette of black and bronzes there were splashes of colour that shone through in Asian inspired patterns and block colours. Jessie White founded the label 10 years ago collection, presenting a collection of neon colours and hints of this recent collection goes back to those roots. Assymetrical hemlines, modern draping and twisting elements were all present resulting in a highly polished and carefully detailed collection.

Tigerlily has established a cult following for it’s bohemian aesthetic and worldly influences.  Founded by Jodhi Meares in 2000, Tigerlily has grown into a brand that is sexy and exotic yet grounded and earthy to become a pioneer in swimwear and fashion. The label is based on the qualities of health, freedom and fun which is evident throughout this collection with its clashing prints and bold colours. Earthy tones in deep oranges and rusty reds set against bright pops of pink and fresh blues. Prints from around the globe from Moroccan influences and Ghaudi aesthetics are injected into long skirts, maxi dresses with high splits, embellished shorts, chunky cardigans and tailored jackets. This is a collection where nothing was left to spare and with loosely styled pieces it truly is a release of your inner bohemian child.
